We have a 5-day challenge for those of you that want to support our
School Libraries Transform Campaign!
We need to keep this rolling as our schools start to determine our budgets for 2021, we need them to know we are not going away, and we will be making lots of noise if they touch our library spaces!
So here is a challenge for you!!!
DAY ONE: If you have not signed the petition do it, if you have, then today's challenge is to get ONE person to do it; your boss, your English HOD, your caretaker, your dad; anyone. Tell them and get them to sign it!

Save our school libraries
Every student should have access to a library, no matter who they are or where they live.

DAY TWO: Print off a stack of the bookmarks and a couple of posters. Make your own QR code with the petition URL and stick it on the poster. Put one in the staff room, in your library and put the bookmarks in the staff pigeonholes. If you have already done this - then we up the challenge - print a few off and put them in your local bookshop and supermarket!!! Grab a chocky bar when you are there :-)

DAY THREE: Find a colleague and have a meaningful chat about your library, why it matters, why you love working in it and what some of the hurdles are you face.
DAY FOUR: Think of an activity that will promote your library, it could be an open day for parents, an afternoon tea for the staff, a pop up library in the quad, a day where you get some of your archives out for the staff and board to look at. Invite the parents, maybe a display with all the new books you have in 2020 for the staff to see what you have, or haven't, been able to purchase, shut the library at lunch and get the staff in for a few plunger coffees... We are having our annual Library Cafe - two days of coffee, Christmas food, and books just for the staff to take out for the holidays. Try something new, get people into your library and then share your library story with them, hit them up with a bookmark, get them to sign the petition, invite a newspaper. So the challenge for today is to start thinking and planning for the event, it can be small, it could be big- but think about it and hatch a plan.
DAY FIVE: It is summer reading holiday programme time, start to plan how your students can take books home over summer and adjust your permission slips etc to add the QR code for the petition, add in the bookmark, make sure your parents and staff know about our campaign through the summer reading holiday programmes you set up. Stick a poster in the bags of books you send home.... If you haven't done a Summer Reading Programme before - do one this year, they work, and it makes your library continually useful!
We need to keep moving on our campaign because I suspect that in 2021 many of us will have budget cuts and spaces taken from us like never before with the trickle down of Covid-19, with no overseas students and rising roll numbers with expats coming home, taking our spaces.
We will do a survey early next year to find out what your budgets have done, but in the meantime, let's keep us out and in front.
Those who complete the FIVE DAY CHALLENGE will receive a chocolate bar of some sort!!! Somehow:)

FINAL CHALLENGE: Write on the list serve or our Facebook page how the Five Day Challenge has been for you - we would love to hear!
